Editing Text Version in Campaign Standard

I was recently in a webinar where it was recommended to have more descriptive text versions of marketing emails, since some AI summary tools use the text version to find relevant details. In Campaign Standard, I switched off Sync with HTML, edited the text version to be more readable than the auto-generated version, and sent myself a test. However, when I view it as a text-only email, I’m still seeing the auto-generated version.

Am I unable to edit the text version through ACS, or what steps should I take to edit the email. I’d like to make sure that it includes our “view in browser” link as well as the unsubscribe link? I want to create a text version that highlights the best offers from the HTML version.

Yes, you should be able to edit the plain text version in ACS once Sync with HTML is disabled.

A few things you can check:

    1. After turning off Sync with HTML, make sure you are editing the content under the Plain Text tab and saving the delivery again.
    2. If you re-enable sync at any point, ACS will overwrite the custom text with the auto-generated version again.
    3. During proofing/testing, try forcing the delivery to send in text format instead of letting the mail client choose the format. Sometimes Outlook/Gmail still shows the HTML version, which can make it seem like the text changes were not applied.
    4. You can manually include the mirror page and unsubscribe links in the text version using personalization fields/tags.

    Example:

    • Mirror page: <% mirrorPageUrl %>
    • Unsubscribe: <% link op.optOut %>
    1. Also check whether typology rules or missing unsubscribe links are causing ACS to fallback to the generated text version.

For the text version itself, keeping it as a short readable summary of the main offers is probably the best approach instead of relying on the auto-generated output.
