Split and cell

Hi all, I am new to adobe campaign..please expalin me what is difference between split and cell on in adobe campaign, and one use case..in which scenarios we use themm,,in which scenario split and in which scenario cell,please help
 
They ask me this in interview ..plz help to answer clear ly
