pertaining errors on list update

can I use read list activity and list update activity both pointing to same list. basically, I first read a list as suppression list then lastly, insert any new data into the same list it seems to have error if i do like that. but if I read list activity and list update activity using different list that can be no errors in Adobe campaign classic
