Looking for Help Connecting Workfront Fusion to Workfront Preview Instance

Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to Workfront Fusion and recently completed the Fusion training courses. Our team is trying to connect Workfront Fusion to our Workfront Preview environment so we can build and test scenarios before moving them to Production.

I've successfully created an OAuth application and generated a Client ID and Client Secret, but I'm getting stuck during the authentication setup. When I use the Preview domain, I receive an error indicating the application can't be found, and I've also run into issues determining the correct domain and redirect URL to use for the Preview environment.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple, but after spending quite a bit of time troubleshooting, I'm stuck and would appreciate any guidance from someone who has successfully connected Fusion to a Workfront Preview instance.

Any tips, screenshots, or examples of a working setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi there,

Welcome to Fusion! Good news, this is likely simpler than what you're troubleshooting right now.

For most Workfront connections in Fusion, you don't need to create your own OAuth application or supply a Client ID and Secret at all. Fusion has predefined client credentials built in for connecting to Workfront, including Preview environments, so you can skip the custom OAuth app entirely.

When you set up the connection in Fusion, just choose the standard Workfront connection type, point it at your Preview environment domain, and authenticate with your Workfront login. Fusion handles the client credentials under the hood, so you won't hit the "application can't be found" error you're seeing, since that's specific to custom OAuth apps and their redirect URI configuration.

    Hi,

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate your help here!

My understanding is that I still need to fill out the Client ID and Client Secret fields because I don't appear to have the option to select the Preview instance when creating a Workfront connection. The Production instance is already available, which led me to believe that I need to create a separate connection specifically for Preview.

If I'm missing a setting or configuration somewhere that would allow me to select the Preview environment without creating a new connection, I'm definitely all ears. Could you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks for your help!

Leave all those fields from your screenshot empty. Just click “Create Connection”, and in the window that will be opened, type yourDomain.preview.workfront.com

By “created an OAuth application...”, do you mean in Workfront? If so, I don’t believe that works.

You can either create a project in the developer console to generate your client ID and secret and then use the Server-to-server connection, which I recommend, or you will need to be logged into the account that you want Fusion to use, and then select the Workfront Auth in the Fusion connection configuration, which should open a popup asking you to allow Fusion to act on your behalf.

🎉 Good news—I was able to get Workfront Preview Instance set up! Yay! Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way.

I do have one more question regarding Workfront Proof. From what I can tell, I can't use the Workfront Preview instance directly and instead need to create a separate connection for Proof.

However, I'm still receiving an error message when I try to connect it.

Has anyone run into this before or have any tips and tricks for connecting a Workfront Proof account? My boss was able to get her personal Proof account working, but we're hoping to get the Preview instance set up as well.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
