Fusion: Support native Issue → Project conversion without immediate resolution

In the Workfront UI, converting an Issue to a Project establishes a native resolving/resolvable relationship, and the Issue status is automatically driven by the Project status.

In Fusion, the Convert object module:

  • Immediately resolves the Issue
  • Removes it from active queue visibility
  • Does not allow control over timing of resolution

Using Create a record:

  • Allows delayed resolution
  • But does NOT create the native resolving object relationship
  • Prevents automatic status synchronization

Request:
Enhance Fusion to support:

  • Creating a Project from an Issue using a template
  • Establishing the native resolving/resolvable relationship
  • Allowing control over when the Issue is resolved (not forced immediately)

This would enable automation scenarios that match the native Workfront UX while preserving queue visibility and lifecycle control.

Business impact:

  • Prevents automation of intake workflows
  • Forces manual conversion
  • Creates inconsistency between UI and Fusion behavior

Great idea, Jennifer!  We’ll bring this to our product team

Jennifer, I’m not sure if I’m understanding your inquiry correct, it seems you want to preserve the connection of the request to the project, so when project is in status of In Progress, so is the request, and if the project becomes complete, the connected request becomes complete.

This can be accomplished today within the convert action mod but you need to check the Advanced Options box why at the bottom (not intuitive).  You’ll see two options to use, to keep project connected and to keep the requester as the primary contact

If my response answered your question, please mark it answered, so others can find the answer

I just did the exact same thing using the Misc Action module.  I don’t remember seeing these options in the convert object module, but I’ll definitely check it out.

Thanks to help from my favorite WF peeps (you know who you are!), I was able to figure out a workaround using the MISC ACTION module. The key is to add “preserveIssue” and “preservePrimaryContact” to options under advanced settings. Would still be nice if the convert module would do this, rather than having to come up with a workaround, but at least I now have a viable scenario!
