Workfront Proof – Interactive Proofing for AEM Sites (Authenticated Preview)

Hi everyone,

How are you handling interactive proofing for Adobe Experience Manager Sites pages?

I’m working on a use case where the client wants to use interactive proofs in Workfront Proof to review and approve pages that are still in preview. The challenge is that the preview environment is behind authentication, and interactive proofing doesn’t support authenticated access.

Have you found any viable workarounds or alternative approaches in this scenario?

I’m aware of fallback options like manually capturing screenshots or screen recordings, but ideally we’d like to retain the benefits of interactive proofing.

Also curious if tools like Frame.io offer a better solution for this kind of workflow, or if there are other patterns you’d recommend.

Thanks!

can you go a little more into the interactive proofing process you use? (and which tool you use for interactive proofing?) The last I checked, some amount of authentication was being supported -- primarily through the desktop proofing app. This was a couple of years ago and I actually don’t remember whether our AEM was cloud or on-prem -- so while I can be somewhat helpful from a very generic standpoint of just authenticating in general, for specifics you might be better off contacting the helpful people on the WF Support team.

We would ideally use the functionality where you can input the URL of AEM Sites page into the Workfront Proof (web based), but I just read here that it’s “designed primarily for proofing static and video files”. I will see if we can do the auth via Desktop Proofing Viewer. I see that Adobe mentions that “if you create a proof for web content using a URL and you want to proof the content interactively, you must use the Desktop Proofing Viewer”, so I will explore the Desktop Proofing Viewer. 😁

I will play around with that tool and see if that does it. Thank you @skyehansen!

If this solved your issue, please mark it as solved so others can find the solution faster.

sounds good. Any community advisor familiar with interactive proofing should be able to help you up until the auth stage. Here are a few things we all know:

  1. I think about 2 years ago, Workfront tried to release a web based way to review URL proofs. This didn’t end up working very well with respect to authenticating. In order to toggle back and forth between using the web browser vs the desktop proofing viewer, there was initially a toggle on the Proof side of the house that you had to toggle. So this may still be there, and I mention it in case you’re having any issues getting the desktop viewer to bring up your proof.
  2. if your company is locked down with respect to installing software, be sure to work with your IT on getting the desktop proofing viewer onto your software center or mac equivalent. It’s usually not a big deal but then every time Workfront updates the viewer, you’ll need to resubmit to IT.
  3. Of course, when you create your URL proof, be sure to toggle over to “interactive proof” otherwise it just manifests as a static proof.
  4. I seem to remember that authenticating was pretty finicky but can’t remember how. I think some of our users experienced better results if they were on VPN, so you might want to try both VPN vs no VPN vs being in the office.

If the auth stage continues to defeat you, I still recommend you ask WF Support. Good luck.
