Record the original object that is being copied when making a copy

When something gets copied, (especially projects, but also tasks, issues, etc. - anything that can be copied in the system), we want to know from what object it was copied. Ideally, a link to the object in its Details tab. Also, being able to report on the original object's name and ID.

I had an issue with this just last week. We found a big mistake in a copied object but the creator forgot where they copied it from to allow us to fix the original.

Additionally, it would be great to see where the original object came from as well. When copying projects, we lose the original issue it was created from. This makes it hard to track the original request date and requestor info.

William - I know this post is old and you may have moved on or solved it for yourself, but have you tried adding a custom field to the project form to capture the URL, name or ID of the original project. If copied with the same forms, that info would carry to the copied project.
