Recent Paths showing projects that are no longer being published as Request Queues

We have projects that are no longer being published as Request Queues but are still showing up in users' Recent Paths. The only way I can see to get rid of them is to move the project status to Pending. Is there something else I should be doing to hide these from the Recent Paths list?
