Not change Parent Task status based on child Task.

Hey all,

In managing a project in Adobe Workfront where we have lines of issues, I have a specific question. Is it feasible to update the subtasks without impacting or altering any of the main tasks?

I'm interested in maintaining the original status of the tasks while making necessary modifications to the subtasks. Could you please provide information or guidelines on achieving this within the system?"

"In the scenario where Task 15 and Task 16 are updated to 'INP' status, the parent task, Task 14, is also automatically updated to 'INP'. I would like to prevent this automatic update. The change in the status of the subtasks should not influence the status of Task 14. How can this be achieved?"

Under the Project Settings area (found via Edit Project), there is a field for "Summary Completion Mode." If that is set to Automatic, the status and percent complete of parent tasks will automatically update based on the child tasks. If you set that to Manual, you can control those options.

If you are using project templates, you may want to consider changing that setting so it's not a manual process each time.

Hey Nichole! Thanks for the way around, when I set it to the manual, how could I then control those options? Do I go back to tasks and control from there? 🙂

If you swap from Automatic to Manual, the parent task status and percent complete will not change unless you manually do so. So, you can update any of your child/subtasks in your timeline without affecting parent tasks. Just know that this will require additional efforts for closing projects, as you'll want to make sure all parent tasks are complete.
