[Event Recap] Ohio WUG July 2026 Monthly Roundtable (7/13/2026)
Great turnout for our July roundtable — 27 attendees and 82 chapter members and counting (23 new members since our June 1 meeting!). We had folks register and join from across the country, plus one respondent all the way from London, spanning system admins, Fusion developers, marketing operations leaders, and end users.
Our main topic was a live demo of the Workfront MCP Server and an overview of current Workfront AI capabilities, presented by David Kershaw of Techmera. David walked us through the three AI paradigms available in Workfront today, then showed the MCP Server in action against a live instance.
- AI Assistant. The in-Workfront chatbot. Best for summarizing what's on the current page, answering documentation and configuration questions, and (usefully) helping with calculated fields without the hallucinations you'd see from a generic LLM.
- AI Collaborator. Embeddable AI agents that plug into workflows. The Content Reviewer is generally available today — think of it as an AI teammate that reviews content against your brand guidelines inside an approval workflow. More collaborators (project management) are on the roadmap.
- Workfront MCP Server. A way to talk to your Workfront instance from AI apps like Claude or ChatGPT using natural language. Ask "what tasks do I have today?" or "give me an executive summary of this portfolio" and the MCP translates that into Workfront API calls under the hood. MCP itself (Model Context Protocol) is a 2024 standard for connecting AI apps to external systems.
For the demo, David pulled portfolio details and had Claude generate a leadership-ready executive report — executive summary, risk callouts, recommended actions, and visualizations — in about five minutes. A few practical points he flagged that are worth carrying back to your own instance:
- Governance is a setting, not an afterthought. MCP write access is toggleable at the instance level, and permissions can be scoped down at authorization time (read-only, ask-before-write, and so on). Claude and ChatGPT also let enterprise AI teams lock down settings centrally.
- Actions show up as the user, not a service account. A quiet but meaningful governance win over the Fusion service-account model, where automation appears to be performed by a bot.
- Everything in Workfront is context now. Every template description, group description, team description, and custom form label is being read by the AI. One member shared that her team is running a template audit to make their instance "AI-ready," using the five-pillars framing from Skye Hanson's Summit session.
- The real unlock is cross-tool. One of our co-leads came back from a week off, asked Claude to catch him up using the Workfront + Gmail + Calendar connectors, and got a prioritized "top 5 for today" summary back. Slack-to-Workfront project updates came up as an obvious next step.
- Verify results and audit with your security team before rolling this out. Data is going to LLMs, so know what you're sharing.
We received 36 “burning questions” submitted in the pre-event survey and only made it to a few in the live conversation. The co-leads are now cataloging what we didn't cover so we can pick those threads up in the private LinkedIn Ohio group and in future sessions. David also left us with homework: try a real MCP use case and share it back with the group.
A few community notes:
- 🎉 We're at 82 members — 23 new since June 1. Thank you to everyone who's joined or told a colleague.
- 📅 Our next in-person meetup is Tuesday, August 18, 4:30 to 6:30 PM ET, hosted by TELUS Digital in downtown Columbus. Please register before July 24 — Adobe is migrating our event platform starting that date, and everything will be read-only during the transition (expected to be complete by early August).
- 💬 Our private LinkedIn group is where cross-meeting conversations happen. Reach out if you'd like an invite.
Recording: 🎥 We'll post the YouTube link in the comments once Adobe makes it available.
