Custom message for each stage of workflow

We are having an issues where the Custom message carries over from each Stage causing confusion for the next Stage recipients in our automated workflows. Right now, we don't see a way to customize each stages message. Having each stage have its own custom (or template) message would help reduce confusion. I sent this as a ticket, but was told this is not an option yet
