Creating a Selection List

Hello! I am wanting to have a column when looking at all the tasks in a project where I can put in a custom list and select items from that list and then create a report with a summary of those list items.

Example being a list of resources needed for a project like Marketing, Finance, display table, branded merch

And then from that list, being able to select Marketing, branded merch, and display table. Then making a report that shows how many tasks need a display table or Marketing.

This sounds like you need to first have a custom form field with that list, and you need that on a custom form on those tasks (or people need permissions to use that custom form). From there you can put the column on your task list, and select items by inline editing.

Thanks so much! I got the form set up but can't seem to get the report to work. The form is showing up in the columns (view) and filters tabs in the report but not groupings which is what I need to use. Any suggestions here?

Make your field single select instead of multi-select. This is the only way you'll be able to use groupings. Otherwise, export the report details to a spreadsheet and go from there. Otherwise, make 3 separate (marketing, branded merch and display table) reports.

Hi there,

Here is what we could do & hope this helps.

1. Create a custom form

2. add custom form to the projects (via template if you are converting issues to projects using same process)

Note: if you want to use them just to view and not in chart you can use multi select field. If you will need a chart created to see how many of are for Marketing, brand etc., then please make sure to use only dropdown field. We cannot group mutliselect field to use them to view on summary or use them on chart.
