We need the ability to create custom reminders and alerts based on our business processes without tying them to tasks or issues.

    We agree! We specifically think this would be helpful if we could set time based notifications if a user had not taken action on a task or an issue within a specific timeframe. Often a user will miss the initial notification email and with no other notification a task/issue will just sit there with no action, pushing the project off course.
