How do you handle your list when the person no longer works for the company?
Do you mark as an unsubscribe or a different way?

Hi @kathryntimko ,

The person in your database changes their company, mails sent to the old company email will automatically hard bounce.

If you have a database management system in place they will be marketed non marketable in due course.

Options you can use is to either change their email to new email id using change data value flow or if you do not have their new contact details mark them as marketing suspended.

That’s not guaranteed at all. Just as likely is you get an auto-response like “Please send to newperson@example.com” while the old address still works, and/or the old address is set as an alias for the new person’s address.

Eventually, yes, the old email address will probably hard bounce. But that could be many months.

@kathryntimko, we can either delete the person from Marketo or add them to the blocklist.

You can just delete the records, as those emails will cease to exist; however, if you need to preserve the activity/other data points for that person's record, you can mark the record as non-marketable by updating the Blocklisted field to True. When you set the Blocklisted field to true, the person will not receive any emails from your Marketo instance, including operational emails, unlike the Unsubscribed field, where the person can still be sent the operational emails.

Hi

I agree with all the comments. However, if the person already exists in your CRM, I would recommend checking with your CRM admin to determine the best way to handle the records. In most cases, they would prefer to preserve the activity history and do not want to delete the record. Just be cautious if you are considering deleting them.
