Not merging records = Creating duplicates?

Hi,

 

New to Marketo. Just want to ask if I choose not to merge records, will that mean I'm creating a duplicate? How will the activity be tracked then?

Not merging in what exact context? Your question is pretty vague. Are you talking about Munchkin sessions being associated (a form of merging)? Or the Merge Leads flow step or REST API call?
