Hello hello!
I'm very glad to participate in the mentorship program! I'm Gianluca, and I live in Italy, very close to the lake in Como.

I'm working in a software company in Switzerland, and I've been hired as a web developer, but I moved as a Marketing Technology and Analytics Expert in the last few months.

I've been working with Marketo for 6 years now, but in the last couple of years as the main administrator of the entire system. I'm working mainly with integration, complex flow, webhooks, REST API, and technology backend.

I hope to level up all my Marketo skills and become an Expert by the end of the program, and, why not, an Architect next year!

Hi ggerla! I am happy you are here. Sounds like we could learn a lot from each other as I have been mainly the Martech and Analytics side and only recently venturing more into the web side of things. I am jealous that you live near lake Como, I definitely would love to get over there some day!!

Hello Ashleigh, it’s great to have you as our mentor. I work as a Marketo Consultant at one of the big 4 firms in India. For quite some time, I’ve been struggling to use Velocity Script in my programs. Although I’ve used it in a very basic manner, I’m now aiming to minimize the number of emails creation in my programs using Velocity Script.

For instance, when creating an ON24 event in Marketo, I typically need to create at least 8 emails. I’m interested in reducing this count by creating a script that allows complete working with minimum emails.

Is this achievable?

Thanks,

Muneer

Hi @syedhasan ,

Can you elaborate on how are you planning to reduce the number of emails, because for an event program usually the emails created are related to invitation, follow up for register, confirmation of registration, reminder to attend & thank you for attending.

if you go by this minimum of 5 email have to be created.

By using velocity script you can only reduce amount of work needed to set up these emails.

Hi everyone!
My name is Steven, and I'm based in New York. I work at a tech startup and have been using Marketo a lot over the past three years, from migrating from Hubspot to Marketo to building out our lead scoring model and managing our email campaigns.

Looking forward to learning from and interacting with all of you the next several weeks!

Hi @stevenchung87 - Are you in the City? I am also in New York (upstate). Always fun to find connections "close" to me. Sounds like you already have some great experience under your belt. A migration is a great learning experience. I've gone through several in my years and it always keeps me on my toes (haha).

Hello @ashleighmo1! Yes, I'm in the city! And likewise- it's always nice meeting people nearby, especially since most of the MUG/sessions I've engaged with have been west coast based.

Multiple MAP migrations is amazing! I definitely learned a lot in a very short amount of time during the migration process, but I think I'd be ok not having to go through that again haha.

Hi everyone!

My name is Brenda and I am a Marketing Operations Specialist. I have just under 3 years of experience in Marketo, being the one on my team to execute campaigns such as creating landing pages, emails, custom forms, engagement/nurture orchestration, and much more. I recently renewed my Marketo Engage Business Practitioner Professional certification and decided it was time to learn more to "level up" to be more of an asset to my team. I look forward to getting to know everyone more and diving into the content! 🙂

@mktomacaque@rahulsh @syedhasan @uditmathur @ggerla @stevenchung87 @brendape2 @kpsingh - WELCOME to the Mentorship Program for Adobe Marketo Engage! I am SO excited to be here and learn from one another. I can already tell from the intros that this will be a very exciting, engaging and thought provoking journey for us all, myself included! There is so much to know and learn about the program, like with most things. Please remember to be kind to yourselves as you embark on the journey to a higher certification, you're already a step ahead just by being here and participating. My hope with the program is that everyone will feel comfortable coming to this thread, posting their comments and questions and get everything out of this program that they are hoping.

I know some of you already dropped some of your hopes and specific topics of interest but I would love to get a comprehensive list going here so that I make sure everyone is confident and happy at the end of this program. My ask for this week...

  1. Could you please let me know what topics you are hoping to cover? It's ok if it is a long list or if you aren't sure yet (feel free to come back to this and reply at any time)! Feel free to drop specific detailed questions/topics/examples too!
  2. What do you want to get out of the program? I know the intent is to study and be ready to take the exam, but let's get SMART with our goals 😉. What exactly are you looking for? Are you just hoping to pass the exam? Get a high mark on the exam? Venture outside of your comfort zone and implement something new in your instance?

Lastly, Let me know what you need throughout the program, I'm here to help! I want us to learn together. While I have been in Marketo for several years and have helped to train teams, it does not mean I know everything. I am constantly trying to push myself to learn new things and stay current with new releases in the program. If I don't have an answer to one of your questions, rest assured, I will be tapping into my network to get you an answer. I have been heavily involved in Adobe for quite some time and have some great connections out there with some champions.

I will end with my own aspirations to hold me accountable:

  1. Above all else, I want you all to walk away confident with new knowledge and new initiatives to try at work. I would love for you all to pass the exam upon completion of the program, I think that would be the biggest indicator to my success as a mentor.
  2. I want to level up my own knowledge and take + pass the Architect Exam.
  3. I have also applied to become an Adobe Marketo Engage Champion and hope that my efforts will be recognized by that prestigious group of individuals.

Hi Ashlegih! My goals for this program can be found below:

  1. Could you please let me know what topics you are hoping to cover? It's ok if it is a long list or if you aren't sure yet (feel free to come back to this and reply at any time)! Feel free to drop specific detailed questions/topics/examples too!

I am hoping to cover the following topics:

  • Identify what happened to an asset using the Audit Trail
  • Recognize differences between users and roles
  • Identify and apply the appropriate use of the PMCF
  • Perform and analyze an A/B test strategy
  • Analyze an instance’s data quality
  • Apply best practices around A/B testing

2. What do you want to get out of the program? I know the intent is to study and be ready to take the exam, but let's get SMART with our goals. What exactly are you looking for? Are you just hoping to pass the exam? Get a high mark on the exam? Venture outside of your comfort zone and implement something new in your instance?

At minimum, I want to pass the exam and learn more about the above topics, as they are hot topics within the team I work with. I am looking to implement more A/B testing for emails in my team and have a standard process for it as well. Being realistic with workload and how much time I am able to pledge to this program, this is how I view my SMART goal:

S - (Specific) : Pass the Expert exam

M - (Measurable) : Score at least a 38/50 (Knowing the pass score is 32/50)

A - (Attainable) : I was able to re-certify (Business Level Cert) with a near perfect score, making this the next step/level

R - (Relevant) : By attaining an Expert Certification, I will bring additional knowledge and expertise to my team

T - (Time Bound) : Pass Expert Exam by the end of the Mentorship program, Friday, June 28

Please reply to this thread with your answers and we will discuss on Monday.

Quiz #1: All about Segmentation

  1. A user is looking to target leads by Job Level and is creating segmentation to support this initiative. The user has 2000 leads in the database. The breakdown is as follows: 500 have no job level, 1000 have individual contributor, 250 have C-Suite Executive, 50 have Director,  100 have VP, and 100 have manager. When the user approves the segmentation, how many will be in the Job Level segmentation?
    • A - 1500
    • B - 2000
    • C - 250
    • D - 500
  2. Where in Marketo do you go to create segmentations?
    • A -Marketing Activities
    • B - Analytics
    • C - Admin
    • D - Database
  3. How many segmentations can you have?
    • A - 100
    • B - 50
    • C - 20
    • D - Unlimited
  4. What is a use case for Segmentations?/Why use segmentations instead of filters in a smart list?
    • Open Ended Response Please
  5. True or False: Leads can exist in more than one segment.

Fun Fact: You cannot modify, move or delete the default segment.

Please Note: I am OOO June 5th (wednesday) for a volunteer day locally. I will be offline cleaning up a nature preserve so I will reply to any queries on Thursday/Friday.

Happy Friday Everyone! My answers below:

  3. How many segmentations can you have? C - 20
  4. What is a use case for Segmentations?/Why use segmentations instead of filters in a smart list?
    • An appropriate use case for a segmentation would be to divide your database by what "Language" they speak or whether they are "Marketable" to. Segmentations should be used instead of filters in a smart list when you want to protect the logic within them and not have to update every campaign that references a smart list. Segmentations are overall categories you are divide your database into and include EVERYONE in it.
  5. True or False: Leads can exist in more than one segment. FALSE; They can qualify for different segments but ultimately belong to one, depending on the priority order of the segments.

Hi all! Before I post another quiz tomorrow I wanted to do a quick check in for the week. How are you feeling about the exam? How is studying going and do you have any specific questions from your studies? Also, how is work going, do you have any specific questions on a project you are working on? Happy to help troubleshoot.  😀

Hi @ashleighmo1

what I can find very helpful is to merge business needs and knowledge, so if I need to understand in a better context to solve a problem or find a solution, I'll double check with the documentation first, I'll look into the community, and search around the internet.

Vice versa, speaking about segmentations throughout the quiz, I've found some idea to implement in my daily job (eg.: segmentation combination, how to manage them, etc).

Some topics that came out this week in my daily routine were:

- Deliverability issues  (I want 100% !!!! 😁)

- Improve and best practices for Engagement programs

- Dynamic email content vs Different emails - and how to get the best analysis outcome for email programs

- Sync improvement between Marketo and SFDC

Also, I think we can try out the mock exam in the next weeks, and see the results together. This could be totally helpful.

Hi,

I will also be interested to have a better understanding around Reporting & CRM Integration.

I think these 2 are the most powerful tools of Marketo & most underrated features at the same time.

Any thing around these topics will always be an addition to our knowledge.
