How to use "was sent sales email"

I created an email blast with three emails spaced three days apart. What's the best way to prevent emails 2 or 3 from sending if they responded to the 1st or 2nd email and the activity is being documented in Salesforce? I tried testing by sending an email to a test contact from salesforce, then setting up the smart list as "was sent sales email / subject is any / date of activity on or after 10/19/2015 / sent by [my email address] and it affected 0 leads. Maybe my understanding of what a "sales email" is wrong?

Hi Pia,

Sales emails are only those sent from Marketo Sales Insight in Salesforce or through the Sales Insight plugin in Outlook/Gmail.  All other emails sent from Marketo are not considered Sales Emails.

When you look at the lead record in Marketo for the contact you sent a test email to, are you seeing the Was Sent Sales Email activity?

This would be Was Sent Email or Not Was Sent Email.

But if you have a drip flow and it says

Send Email 1

Wait 2 days

Send Email 2

Wait 3 days

Send Email 3

You need to say something like If Lead Has Activity Within Past 2 days, then don't send Email 2....so it would actually be better to have a second listen campaign that says:

Activity Added [Constraints]

and Member of Campaign 1

and Not Was Sent Email 2 or 3 yet

then Remove from Campaign 1.

Thanks to you both. John, it turns out I totally misunderstood what "sales email" meant. Based on your response, Josh, I have it set up like this:

Campaign 1:

If Member of program = [program name]

Then Send email 1

wait 3 days

Send email 2

Wait 3 days

Send email 3

Campaign 2:

If Member of program [program name] and

Activity was logged / subject is not empty / date of activity on or after 10/19/15 and

Not was sent email 2 or

Not was sent email 3

Then Remove from Flow - Campaign is Campaign 1
