Question

How many links in an email is too many?

We are having some clients say they are not receiving our newsletters.  Here are some examples:

http://matrixresources.com/InSights-2013-08-ATL
http://matrixresources.com/InTouch-2013-09-ATL

We send the newsletters out as emails - the above links are to a pdf version of the newsletters that allow Account Execs to send out individually if they want.  We are not integrated with Salesforce.

The activity history on the contact record says things are delivered, but then nothing - no clicks, etc.
I suspect that the spam filter is grabbing it and sending it to junk mail and it is not getting through.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
Thanks,
Karin

Some anti-spam filters flag shortned URL as potential risk.

The first URL expands to
http://info.matrixres.com/rs/matrix/images/2013-08_MATRIXInsightsNewsletter_ATL.htm

I am afraid your theory of emails not reaching the inbox is likely to be be right.

We are looking to change our newsletter over to Marketo as well - but I was afraid of what happened to Karin.

@bgomes - any suggestions to overcome this change w/ newsletters?

Thanks,
Taylor

Posting the full links instead of shortened URL would mitigate the risks of anti-span setting high scores when the URL and the actual link do not match.

SpamAssassin, a widely used anti-spam system, lists the tests it performs on mail messages to determine if they're spam or not.

The shortened URL is actually a redirect on our website.  That way it looks like it is going to our website vs the "info.matrix".  Don't know if the redirect does the same thing as a short URL.

Any info on that?
Thanks,
Karin

The anti-spam will not score if the link visible to users and actual link (href) are the same.

What if the link is an image, such as a facebook icon at the bottom of your email with the URL that goes to your facebook page?  Does it score because it is an image?

Most of our newsletter is images with links.

Thanks for your help
