Filter Campaign Flow by Email Address

Hi there,

We're trying to create something of an A/B test for a trigger campaign for Newsletter Signups. We would like to segment the emails so that emails beginning with numbers (0-9) and half the alphabet (A-M) are sent one email (Email A) while emails beginning with the second half of the alphabet (N-Z) receive a different email (Email B).

Unfortunately Marketo doesn't just allow you to add something like this:

So far we've determined that you can set up filters for each value individually (e.g., Email Address starts with 0, Email starts with 1, Email starts with 2, ... etc.) creating an exhaustive list of triggers, but we haven't found a shortcut.

Any help would be much appreciated--thanks!

Hi - Random sample will specifically not assist you in this scenario. My understanding of random sample is when faced with a choice of A or B and there's only one record to choose from, Marketo will choose A. So if you constantly send just one record through the trigger, Marketo will always choose A. This is how Marketo resolves uneven numbers in batch campaigns too - the "extra" will default to the A bucket.

A/B testing for triggered email campaigns is the specific scenario Champion Challenger was created for. Check out the doco for champion challenger testing and see if that solves your use case? https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000LGT0CAO

Instead of 0-9, you can use 0,1,2,3,4 and so on.
Similarly a,b,c,d and so on.
Not much of difference....

Look at using the random sample filter here...it will simplify your work-flow.

HI Rajesh, we tried 0,1,2,3,4 without luck.

HI Mark, another discussion thread mentioned that the random sample filter would not be the best idea for A/B testing in a trigger campaign. Is there any easy way to make sure that half of the new signups are sent one email while the other half are sent another?

Thanks!

got it...it could be because this is a trigger based smart campaign. i was thinking about that as well. Slill, I think it would be fine just not exactly 50/50...worth testing for sure...
