Email Subscription programs lead source, channel and tracking

Hi all,

I'm setting up some landing pages/forms to invite people to sign up for conference email updates. The LP allows people to sign up for updates on the conference, so that they get the latest developments on the event.

A couple questions:

- What should the channel be? Right now, I have it as a content channel (we have content, webinar, events, hand-raise, email, email nurture, operational, online advertising)

- What should the lead source be? Right now I have it as Website - Content - Email (We don't use lead source in the traditional first touch manner, we use it as "registration source" almost)

- Should it be its own program, or can I add it to a larger Email Subscription program? Right now I have it separate to allow for using tokens. We have a parent Email Subscription program that looks for all subscription triggers.

Let me know if you need clarification!

Allison,

is this a one time conference email sign up? Will they continue to receive emails after the conference?

You can always create custom Channels and Sources if you prefer.

  • Lead Source can be whatever makes sense to you. I'd probably use your suggestion or link it to the event as Event - Content - Email.
  • Channel - this could be Blog or Newsletter. Event doesn't make sense here because Event is a special program and status setup. You'd want people who sign up to receive attribution touch as "Blog/newsletter" and Filled Out Form = Subscribed.
  • I suppose I'd keep it as a separate Program running centrally for all conferences.

Allison Sparrow FYI. I moved your post to the Products and Support  You will probably get an answer sooner since it is a product related question.

Thanks @Josh Hill, I think I'm going to keep the lead source info as is. The channel right now is "Content". It's not ideal, but I think it makes more sense than the others.

This is an event signup that will go up every year for people to express interest in that particular event: Save Your Seat for Opticon 2016

Hi Alison,

Just so you know you're not 'stuck' with the Channels that you have. If you feel there are other types of program channels that are more relevant to your company then you can add them, and add the appropriate progression statuses.

Here's a good document to show you how to add channels: Create a Program Channel - Marketo Docs - Product Docs

One thing to note, once you have members in your program you won't be able to change the program channel for your program.

Good Luck!
