Email clicks not logging properly- issue

We have an operation program, sending confirmation email having confirmation link redirecting to Marketo Landing page. But for some people (~30), we have visit webpage activity registered in the activity log but no link click activity.

And I’m not sure what could be the reason!

For that I had to add both the triggers in data change campaign- confirmation link clicked and thankyou landing page visited. But we are planning to move from Marketo’s LP to external one, hence, afraid of removing visit webpage trigger from the campaign. (want to rely on clicked link trigger only )

Sharing some screenshots for example-

-link click is there for some but the link is Instagram link (or some other) not the landing page link

Do share if you have any idea that can help. Thanks!

OK. I see the link was rewritten to bounce off the tracking server (which is what we want) and also the all-important mkt_tok was attached at the final destination (also what we want).

However, you haven’t properly integrated Munchkin with your cookie consent banner. As a result, even if someone accepts cookies, Munchkin is not loaded on that initial pageview and if they navigate to another regional site, for example, you will never see their activities because the mkt_tok is lost after the first page. The activities will stay anonymous, thus never associated with the person in Marketo.

So you should definitely see Click Email activities in the Activity Log if you send someone the same email you sent me.

However, until you fix the Munchkin deployment, Visit Web Page and Click Link will be only sporadically recorded (e.g. if someone happens to refresh the initial page with the mkt_tok, that will associate the session, but cannot be relied upon).

How (please be as detailed as possible) are you building this link? It sounds like you have tracking turned off, perhaps accidentally due to using a token that includes the protocol (https:).

Not sure what your worry is about the external LP because as long as you load Munchkin on the external site, it's the same level of (pageview) tracking you get on Marketo LPs.

Thanks for replying, Sanford!

I have checked the links and tracking is on for them. We are using local variables for links in the email-

I was testing the external page activity, but it was not visible in Marketo. Can you please share any article on it? I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or we can even do it the way I’m doing!

I added the external thankyou page link in the email and sent it to my record. Checked if the visit webpage activity is getting tracked, but it is not.

The external page has munchkin implemented.

Yes, exactly.

If the lead hasn’t accepted cookies, then you must not initialize Munchkin.
