Activity History in SFDC

We are just implementing Marketo and testing the sync with SFDC. I've sent a few records over and it looks like the first form fill ends up logging itself in the activity history but subsequent form fills aren't updating in the activity history. Is this expected?

Hey Richard,

Only the first form fill-out on any day is written when using the default activity recording functionality!

Hope this helps,
Jared

You can controll what writes to the activity history in the admin tab in Marketo...We normally just write the four activities around sales emails...everything else is in the Sales Insight section of the lead/contact...

...We get strong feedback from Sales Leadership that writing activities related to Marketing automation to this part of the record breaks their reporting.

The default Activity sync only sends over one per day as Jared said. If you want more, use a Flow Step action to write it.

To Mark's point:

We also have workflow built into SFDC to modify the tasks that Marketo sends over to prevent their types from being shown as Calls.  The Activity Type field can be very powerful, InsightSquared has an awesome post about it here: http://www.insightsquared.com/2013/06/why-you-need-task-type-in-salesforce-not-just-subject-lines/

Hi Jason,

I just came across this thread while looking for a way to update our activity type when the sales team sends MSI emails. Currently the type logs as "Blank" and our SFDC admin keeps pushing me to have Marketo adjust this for them. However, I am pretty sure the best solution would be a workflow built in our SFDC.

Would you be able to tell me more about how you are doing this? I just sent you a Linkedin invite as well.

Thanks,
Chrissy

Chrissy,

Sure. Since Marketo doesn't have access to the Type field in the Activity record, you have to do this through SFDC.

You can do it using structured subject lines. So make all activities that are logged from sending MSI email have something in the subject the same (i.e. "[Sales Insight] Lead was sent Sales Email: {{trigger.name}}")

You can create a SFDC workflow on the Task object to change the Type field when a record is created. Here is a screenshot of it in action:

Let me know if you have any more questions!
