Translation status remains “In Progress” after cancelling job (AEM Guides – Cloud)

We are observing an issue in AEM Guides (Cloud Service) where the translation status does not revert after cancelling a translation job.

As per Adobe documentation and earlier fixed issues, when a translation job is cancelled or deleted, the “In Progress” status should revert to the original state. However, in our environment, the status continues to remain “In Progress”.

Observed Behavior:

  • When sending a DITA topic/map for translation where the target language copy does not exist:

    • A placeholder (empty) language copy is created.

  • If the translation job is then cancelled:

    • The placeholder file remains in the target language folder.

    • The translation status of the asset still shows “In Progress”.

    • The status does not revert even after some time or refresh.

Expected Behavior:

  • On cancellation of the translation job:

    • Translation status should revert from “In Progress” to the original state.

    • Placeholder language copies (if not translated) should ideally be cleaned up or at least not keep the asset in an “In Progress” state.

Additional Context:

  • This behavior was previously documented as a known issue and marked as fixed in earlier AEM Guides releases (5.0.0).

  • We are currently observing this again in the latest AEM Cloud environment, which suggests a possible regression or an edge-case scenario.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue in the latest AEM Guides Cloud release?

  2. Is there any recommended workaround to correctly reset the translation status after cancellation?

  3. Is the placeholder language copy expected to be retained after job cancellation, or should it be cleaned up?

Any guidance or confirmation would be helpful.

@RaviJo :

To answer some of your questions:

  • Currently there is no open issue on translation cancellation operation pertaining to last couple of releases
  • The placeholder language copy is retained after job cancellation - it is expected. the changes are in working copy and not created as version.

Can you confirm:

  • In which version of AEM Guides are you observing this? If you can confirm we can re-evaluate

  • If there is any open translation project in which the file is still included?

  • if any of the project that you are cancelling was not open from long? - from before the upgrade when this feature came out

  • also, con you confirm if the config “translation.workflow.version.legacy”  is enabled or disabled?
