Single/Multi Topic Dita OT output

Yes, this is possible, but the approach is different for each use case:

1. One PDF containing multiple topics

For a multi-topic PDF, create or use a DITA map/bookmap containing the required topics and generate the output from the Map Dashboard using a PDF output preset with:

• Generate PDF Using: DITA-OT
• Transformation Name: The custom transformation integrated with your Antenna House DITA-OT plug-in
• Required DITA-OT command-line arguments

AEM Guides supports custom DITA-OT plug-ins and custom transformations. Therefore, Antenna House must be integrated into the custom DITA-OT transformation; it is not selected as a separate out-of-the-box PDF engine in the standard PDF preset.

2. One PDF containing a single topic

A single-topic PDF can be generated in two ways:

• Recommended and simplest: Create a small DITA map containing only that topic and publish the map using the same DITA-OT + Antenna House PDF preset.
• Topic Preview flow: AEM Guides currently uses Native PDF as the default method for topic-level PDF generation. If the older DITA-OT topic-level export is required, an administrator can enable the DITA-OT topic export action in the Web Editor configuration by replacing EDITOR_SAVE_AS_PDF with DOWNLOAD_TOPIC_PDF.

The custom Antenna House transformation must support topic-level input or the temporary map/wrapper generated by the topic-level workflow. For predictable results, the one-topic DITA map approach is generally safer because it follows the regular map-based DITA-OT publishing flow.

3. Separate PDF for every topic in a map

This is a different requirement from generating one combined PDF. The Generate Separate PDF for Each Topic capability uses the DITA-OT pdfx plug-in. If a custom DITA-OT package is used, the pdfx plug-in must also be integrated into that package. The regular Antenna House map-level transformation will not automatically provide separate PDF generation for each topic.

Important AEM as a Cloud Service note

A traditional Antenna House integration that depends on a separately installed formatter binary, shell scripts, operating-system libraries, fixed local paths, or host-level environment variables should not be assumed to work on AEM as a Cloud Service. The Antenna House implementation must be packaged as a Cloud-compatible custom DITA-OT solution and must produce the PDF artifact in the location and format expected by AEM Guides.

So,

• Multiple topics in one PDF: Yes, through a DITA map and custom DITA-OT/Antenna House transformation.
• One topic in one PDF: Yes, preferably through a one-topic DITA map; the DITA-OT topic-preview option is also configurable.
• One separate PDF per topic: Possible only when the custom DITA-OT package includes and supports the pdfx topic-level plug-in.
