Unable to terminate workflow during a long running workflow step

Hello,

We are trying to terminate long running workflow steps. When selecting 'Terminate' from the workflow "/libs/cq/workflow/content/console.html" page the request hangs as pending until the current workflow step is completed. Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to terminate a workflow while a long workflow step is running?
