AEM Forms - Ability to create/use Variables

Hi all

Looking for something like the workflow where we could assign say error codes to a variable for use in another step wrt forms is there a way other than storing variables in hidden fields within forms ? 
i have a date source integrated with dynamics and would use invoke service 

local storage cookies are other options but what’s the best way to go about ?I haven’t used request objects so sure there
