Dynamic Media with Open API - not recognized by Google Merchant Center

For certain use cases we have been using DMWOAPI links. One of these was adding them to the product information in google merchant center. It seems that Google is unable to retrieve these links and gives an error message.

We had to swap the DM links to normal published DAM links from our domain. Is that the ootb way DMWOAPI should work? I saw somewhere that creating a custom domain for the DM links would be a solution, however that would mean manually replacing all our existing links.

If anyone faced a similar issue and has other ideas, I would really appreciate.
