Is it possible to use two dimensions together in rows without using Breakdown in Analysis Workspace?

Hi Team,

I have a question regarding Analysis Workspace – Freeform Table.

I want to understand whether it is possible to use any two dimensions together in Rows without using Breakdown.

Example:

  • First dimension in Rows: Browser Type

  • Second relevant dimension next to it: Browser

  • Metric: Visits

My expected view is something like:

Browser Type | Browser | Visits

However, when I try to add the second dimension into Rows, Workspace only shows the Replace option. I do not see any way to place the second dimension next to the first one without using Breakdown, which I do not want in this case.

What I’ve tried:

  • Adding Browser Type first in Rows

  • Then trying to add Browser as a second dimension in Rows

  • Tried different drop positions inside the table

But it doesn’t work.

My question:

  • Is it a limitation of Analysis Workspace that only one dimension is allowed in Rows without Breakdown?

  • Or is there a specific method or best practice to show two related dimensions side-by-side with a metric?

Any guidance or confirmation would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Hi - yes that’s correct. In Workspace you can just use one dimension, and multiple dimensions are only available as a breakdown. CJA will bring this feature next month  (support of 5 dimensions side by side), but that’s currently only on CJA - not yet on the AA roadmap.

Oh wow, have not heard that! Have you seen any documentation on how this feature will work?

Cheers from Switzerland!

I think the closest thing that can be done right now is putting the required dimension items into segments, then using segments as dimensions. In this case, you can mix items from different dimensions. But of course, the problem is you need to create a segment for every single “item”, which is not scalable.

Another option is to use Report Builder… I know this is not Workspaces, but you can use report builder to pull data into Excel, and it will come in like a flat table….

I don’t know why this can’t be done in Workspace and am really jealous that CJA will get this…. but when I do need a flat table of data (with multiple column sorting logic) this is my solution.
