Best practice for comparing global metrics?

Hello all, I could use a quick bit of advice please.

Is this the most straightforward way to compare two global metrics vs. applying them to a specific dimension?

ok based on that I recommend you go through these: Once all these events are setup at each stage of your order process you can then build. Calculated metrics to give you relative % against each other and against Visits lets say. these should give you most of the advance ecommerce metrics you will need. You can then also do segements with these as key metrics if desired..

Visits with Cart Adds

or

visits with no cart Add.

  • Cart Additions
    The number of times an item was added to a shopping cart. This value comes from the scAdd event.
  • Cart Open
    The number of times a customer opened a shopping cart by adding the first item. Occurs the first time an item is added to the shopping cart. This value comes from the scOpen event.
  • Cart Removals
    Number of times an item was removed from a shopping cart. This value comes from the scRemove event.
  • Cart Views
    Event in which the contents of the shopping cart are viewed by the customer.
  • Checkouts
    An event that occurs when customers arrive at the checkout stage of a purchase. The checkout stage usually occurs just before a purchase is finalized, and usually involves the customer entering personal information (such as their shipping and billing information). You have control over the events on your site that qualify as checkouts. This value comes from the scCheckout event.

What exactly are you trying to measure? Shopping cart creation rate?

In this example, yes. However, there are other metrics I'd like to view for the entire site. I have been either applying a segment of 'all visits', or have been applying a dimension such as 'pages' and only looking at the totals. I'd like to know if this is the 'normal' way of doing things or if there's a better/more efficient solution.
