New calculated data expression FORMAT()

Avatar

Hello Community,

I was wondering, how to use the new calculated data expression FORMAT(), which is documented here. and was released with the 2025 Q1 update

Firstly, it is not clear to me from the documentation which parameter should correspond to the input and secondly, I cannot find the command in the editor for calculated fields, as it is not listed there.

I can add the example FORMAT($$POSITIVE, $$BOLD, $$ITALIC) to a calculated field and see

Calculation result:  {"color":"$$POSITIVE","decorations":["$$BOLD","$$ITALIC"]}

in the preview, but I do not really understand the use of it, without having the possibility to pass an input parameter.

Maybe I'm just having a problem, so I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Lars

Hello Lars,

Great question!
The FORMAT option is actually meant to be used on field under the "Add Logic" menu. Once it's enabled on your system you should be seeing a "Formatting Logic" option in that menu and you would put the "FORMAT($$POSITIVE, $$BOLD, $$ITALIC)" in there to establish what you want it to do.

I've talked with our team and I'll see about getting our documentation updated to mention this in more detail, thanks for letting us know!

I'm currently in preview and not able to find anything related to formatting logic. There are only options for Display, Skip, and Validation.

Hello,

The Formatting logic option is not displayed for me either.

@QuinnCullison What do you mean by "Once it's enabled on your system you should be seeing a "Formatting Logic" option"? Is it something which is not rolled out yet?

Thanks in advance.

Lars
