Hi Sheejo, the content you gave for Module 1 was very interesting to read about. I think that topic is for the developer part of the certification. We are in the business practitioner part.

I think this is the course?

@hitaprem , Schema design is the most important part in AEP. So first you go through the Schema creation documentation. If you don't have knowledge about Schema, its very difficult to understand how to create the Segmentation.

What is AEP, and what are the uses for AEP?

Adobe Experience Platform (AEP) is an open system designed to help businesses deliver personalized customer experiences across various channels in real-time. It is a comprehensive customer data platform (CDP) that centralizes and standardizes customer data and content from multiple sources, to achieve 360-degree view of the customer.

Uses:

  • Combines data from multiple sources to build comprehensive profiles of each customer, providing a single view of their interactions and behaviors.
  • Collects and updates real time data from various channels, allowing for immediate segmentation and personalized experiences based on the most current information.
  • Offers tools for analyzing customer data, generating detailed reports, and gaining actionable insights to drive strategic decisions and understand customer trends.
  • Manages data according to privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA, and maintains high data quality through rigorous validation and governance practices.
  • Seamlessly connects with other Adobe products for marketing, analytics, and advertising, as well as supports integrations with external systems and custom solutions.
  • Utilizes a data lake and structured data sets to efficiently store and handle vast amounts of data, enabling easy access and management for analysis and reporting.

What are the data behaviors in the XDM System?

Record - Record data in AEP refers to static or relatively stable information about entities, such as customers, products, or transactions. This type of data typically captures attributes or properties that describe these entities. Record data can be updated, but changes are not as frequent as in time series data. Used for building and maintaining customer profiles, product catalogs, and other static datasets.

TimeSeries - Time series data in AEP refers to data that captures events or interactions over time. This type of data is temporal and is typically used to record changes, activities, or behaviors at specific points in time. Used for tracking customer behaviors, website interactions, transaction histories, and any other time-dependent activities.

Ad-hoc - Captures fields that are specific to a single dataset. Ad-hoc schemas are used in various data ingestion workflows within Experience Platform, including ingesting CSV files and creating certain types of source connections.

What is a schema?

Schema defines the structure and format of data, providing a blueprint for how data is organized, stored, and interpreted within the platform. Schemas in AEP are based on the Experience Data Model (XDM), which standardizes data across different sources and systems, ensuring consistency and follows the same structure, making it easier to integrate and analyze. It Enhances data governance by enforcing structure and validation rules, ensuring data quality and compliance.

What is the XDM Individual Profile?

The XDM Individual Profile is a key component within the AEP's Experience Data Model (XDM) that defines the schema for customer profile data. This schema standardizes the way customer information is structured, stored, and utilized across different systems and applications within the platform. It includes demographic details, preferences, transaction history, and other relevant attributes.

What is the XDM Experience Event?

The XDM Experience Event schema in AEP is designed to capture and represent events or interactions that a customer has with a brand. These events are typically time-stamped and detail specific actions taken by the customer, enabling real-time and historical analysis of customer behavior. It includes records specific actions or interactions such as page views, clicks, purchases, and form submissions.

What are Identities in AEP?

Identity is an unique data to an entity. It is an attributes used to recognize and distinguish individual customers across different channels, devices, and systems. Managing identity effectively is crucial for creating a unified customer profile, enabling personalized experiences, and ensuring accurate data integration. Identity namespace and value is the two main element in identity. We can say two types of identifiers such as unique identifiers (eg., email address, customer ID...) and device identifiers (Cookies, Device IDs and mobile advertising IDs)

What is identity Map in AEP?

The identity Map in AEP is a key component for managing and unifying customer identities. It maps multiple identifiers to a single profile, providing a comprehensive and accurate view of each customer, supporting real-time updates, and ensuring effective data integration and personalization.

Where is the Catalog data stored?

Catalog data is stored in the Data Lake as files and directories, which serves as a centralized repository for managing and integrating various types of data, including product information and metadata. The Data Lake supports real-time updates, data governance, and integration with other services, facilitating effective data management and utilization for personalized customer experiences and insights.

What is a dataset, and what's the use of the dataset?

A dataset in AEP is a storage and management construct for a collection of data. It stores data in a table format where:

Schema: Represents the columns, defining the structure and attributes of the data.

Fields: Represent the rows, each row corresponding to a specific data record.

Additionally, datasets include metadata that describes various aspects of the stored data, providing context and enhancing data management and utilization.

What is a Query service in AEP, and what is the use?

Query Service is a powerful tool that allows users to perform complex queries and analyses on data stored within the platform. It is designed to help users extract insights, generate reports, and support data-driven decision-making by providing a robust querying interface.

Uses:

  • Using queries, we can join different tables within the data lake to create new datasets.
  • Queries enable the creation of detailed reports based on specific data criteria and business needs.
  • They are also used to develop dashboards and visualizations, presenting data in a meaningful way.
  • Additionally, queries can be utilized to create fields based on specific conditions, ensuring that data is ingested according to the criteria provided.

What is Real-Time Customer Profile?

A real-time customer profile in AEP gives a complete and up-to-date view of a customer by combining and updating data from various sources as soon as it's available. It helps in delivering personalized experiences, making quick decisions, and maintaining a consistent customer view across different channels.

What are the building blocks of a schema?

The building blocks for a schema in AEP include fields, data types, classes, field groups, schema extensions, schema validation, relationships, metadata, and inheritance. These components work together to define the structure and organization of data, ensuring effective data management and integration.

What are classes and field groups in AEP? What is the use of them?

Class - Classes define the main structure and meaning of the data they represent such as record or timeseries.

There are three types of classes:

XDM Individual Profile: Defines the schema for individual customer profiles, capturing attributes like name, email, demographics, and preferences.

XDM Experience Event: Defines the schema for experience events, capturing interactions and behaviors such as page views, clicks, and purchases.

Lookup or Custom Classes: Organizations can create custom classes to meet specific business needs and data requirements.

Field groups - Field groups are reusable sets of related fields that you can include in a schema. They help organize and manage data by grouping fields that often go together, making schema creation more consistent and efficient. AEP has some standard field groups for different types of schemas. For example, individual schemas have field groups like Consents and Preferences and Demographic Details, while experience event schemas have field groups like Healthcare Member Details and Commerce Details.
