Authoring
There are two ways to author content using Edge Delivery Services:
- Document-based authoring: This allows you to work with documents from Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and publish them directly to your website. To do this, you will need to install the AEM Assets sidekick plugin.
- Page Editor/Universal Editor: This allows you to author content using the AEM Page Editor or Universal Editor. To do this, you will need to contact your Adobe Sales Representative.
Publishing
Once you have authored your content, you can publish it to your website using the sidekick extension. To do this, simply open the sidekick on a preview page and click the Publish button.
Edge Delivery Services and GitHub
Edge Delivery Services leverages GitHub so that you can manage and deploy code directly from your GitHub repository. This means that you can write content in either Google Docs or Microsoft Word, and develop the functionality of your site by using CSS and JavaScript in GitHub. Websites are automatically created for each of your branches from content preview to production. Every resource that you put into your GitHub repository is available on your website without a build process.
Using the Sidekick
The AEM sidekick provides a toolbar with context-aware options so that you can easily edit, preview, and publish content. To use the sidekick, you will need to install the AEM sidekick extension.
Once you have installed the AEM sidekick extension, you can open it by clicking the sidekick icon in the top right corner of your browser window.
The sidekick will display a list of all of the pages that you have recently edited. You can use the sidekick to preview pages, edit pages, and publish pages.
To publish a page, simply open the sidekick on the preview page and click the Publish button.
Integrate AEM Assets with document-based authoring
Edge Delivery enables you to use images available in AEM Assets repositories while authoring documents in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. To do this, you will need to configure the AEM Assets sidekick plugin.
Once you have configured the AEM Assets sidekick plugin, you can start using images from AEM Assets in your Google Docs or Microsoft Word documents. To do this, simply open the sidekick and click on the Images tab. You will see a list of all of the images that are available in your AEM Assets repository. You can select an image and click the Insert button to insert it into your document.
Conclusion
Edge Delivery Services is a powerful suite of tools that can help you create and deliver high-performing digital experiences. It is easy to use and can be integrated with your existing workflows.
