Flexible Port Egress to Dedicated Egress IP

Can we migrate from Flexible Port Egress to Dedicated Egress IP in AEM as a Cloud Service, and if so, what's the recommended process including whether we need to delete the existing configuration first, how it affects different environments, and if there will be any downtime or code changes required?

Hi @georhe6

Yes, you can switch from Flexible Port Egress (FPE) to a Dedicated Egress IP (DEI) in AEM as a Cloud Service, but it’s not an in-place migration - you can only have one type of advanced networking per program.

The recommended process is:

  • First remove/disable the existing FPE setup from your environments.

  • Then delete the program-level FPE infrastructure.

  • After that, create a Dedicated Egress IP at the program level and enable it per environment (Author/Publish).

You can then expect:

  • The egress IP will be the same across all environments in that program.

  • There will be a short gap in outbound connectivity during the switch, but AEM itself won’t go down.

  • No code changes are usually needed if you’re just making HTTP/HTTPS calls. The only adjustment is on the downstream systems: they’ll need to allowlist the new dedicated IP (or the Adobe-provided FQDN).

  • If you had custom port forwards under FPE, you may need to recreate them after enabling DEI.

So in short: yes it’s possible, you do need to delete the old config first, it impacts all environments in the program, there’s a small window where outbound traffic will pause, and generally no application code changes are required.
