Frequency setup behavior - After clearing Browser cookies

Avatar

Level 2

Hi,

Just want to check how frequency setup will work once user clears the browser cookies.

Let's say, if i set the frequency as 5 to limit the no.of times view user qualify for the segment based on analytics value. If user viewed 5 times, then user should drop out of the segment.

When we have this setup "clear cookies every time when i close the browser".. How the frequency setup will work? Will it remove the remove the user after 5 times if we have profile merge rule setup as "

Thanks

Hello,

The recency/frequency is stored on the profile with the trait. If your relying just on the non-authenticated ID (AAM UUID), and the cookie is cleared after they close the browser, that device will be seen as a entirely new user the next time they come back. However, if they authenticate on the site, and the trait is on their cross-device ID this will not be wiped even after clearing their demdex cookies.

thanks @Deleted Account. this helps. As a follow question, if user viewed 5 times and incase for testing purpose, if we need to make them qualify again for that same segment just for that browser using

http://companyname.demdex.net/event?d_sid=traitID  , will it work or do we need to create new segment with frequency setup change to make the user qualify. to see it.

If you wanted to same device (browser) to qualify into the segment, you'd have to either adjust the frequency/recency, set up a new segment with different frequency/recency, or clear the demdex cookie. If you were to clear the cookie, AAM would see this as a new device with no traits, but works for testing purposes.

thanks @snielson. But, unfortunately it is not working as expected after clearing the demdex cookie from the browser.

Is the device tied to a authenticated profile which contains the segment by chance? If not, I would also try a private / incognito browser, just to verify this device is seen as totally new.
