How do I create a new "set classification" grouping in classification ruler builder?

I want to create under "set classification" when I'm in rule builder. Where do I create this? The classification set is a drop down where we can create more groupings. I want a new grouping created. Where can I add?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @user70977,

To create new classifications, you need to go to the Admin section (& be a user with the correct account privileges for this).

Admin > Report Suites > (select the report suite where the evar you are classifying 'lives', or if you are doing multiple Report Suites ctrl + click each one) > Edit Settings > Conversion> Conversion Classifications

From the drop-down, select the eVar you are classifying. Hover over the small box by the eVar name, then 'Add Classification'. Give the classification a name, then save. It'll then be available to use in the Rule Builder. Make sure you plan the name with future proofing in mind, as altering it once set can be a pain.

Hi @user70977 ,

Steps for Creating a New Classification Set (Grouping)

  1. Go to Admin > Report Suites

    • Login to Adobe Analytics.

    • Navigate to Admin > Report Suites.

    • Select the Report Suite you want to work with.

  2. Click on ‘Edit Settings’ > ‘Classification’ > ‘Classification Hierarchies’

    • Under this section, you’ll find the ability to define classification hierarchies for your variables (eVars, props, etc.).

  3. Find and Select the Variable (eVar/prop)

    • For example, if you're classifying eVar20 (Product ID), select that variable.

  4. Create a New Classification Set

    • Click Add Classification (or similar, depending on UI).

    • Enter a name for the new classification set — this becomes the grouping name you’re referring to.

    • You can also define multiple columns (e.g., Category, Subcategory, Brand).

  5. Save the Classification Set

    • Save changes. Now this classification set becomes available under the “Set Classification” dropdown in the Rule Builder.

  6. Go to Classification Rule Builder

    • Navigate to Admin > Classification Rule Builder.

    • Click Add Rule Set.

    • Under “Set Classification”, your newly created classification grouping will now be listed as an option in the drop-down.

Example:

You want to create a classification on eVar20 for "Campaign Details":

  1. Go to eVar20 in the classification settings.

  2. Add a classification set:

    • Name: Campaign Details

    • Columns: Campaign Type, Region, Channel

  3. Save.

  4. Now go to Classification Rule Builder and select eVar20.

  5. In "Set Classification", you’ll see Campaign Details available.

Thanks.

Pradnya

I still don't bother with the "classification sets" part of this... after creating the classifications for the dimension, I go straight to the Classification Rule Builder... I really don't see what benefit there is to adding the extra Classification Sets steps... especially since everything I create in the Rule Builder will appear in the sets area automatically...

Since its release, I haven't bothered with it, and just keep using the original flow: Create Classifications > Classification Rule Builder....

Hi @user70977

You can only add a new “Set Classification” in the Admin area (and you’ll need the right permissions).

Steps -

  1. Go to Admin > Report Suites and select your report suite.

  2. Edit Settings > Conversion (or Traffic) > Classifications.

  3. Select the variable (eVar/prop) you want to classify.

  4. Click Add Classification, give it a name, and save.

That new classification will then appear in the Set Classification dropdown in the Rule Builder for that variable.

Hope this works!

What happens when the new classification won't appear in rule builder?

There seems to be some oddities right now.. the regular Rule Builder is now showing it's going to be sunset... I reached out to a contact at Adobe who said there are two different rule builders.. the legacy one and one for classification sets... but I can't find anything specific to the classification sets...  so I am not sure what is going on...

Not happy... I much prefer the old way of doing things... less steps and easier to use... but I guess we are getting forced to the new system whether we like it or not... but I have no clue how we are supposed to set Rules right now...
