Changing the date comparison ranges

Hi,

I’m wondering if Adobe Analytics has a functionality to easily adjust date ranges for comparisons in reports.

Here’s the situation: I’ve created a report to compare our monthly data (e.g., 01/10/2024 - 31/10/2024) with the same month last year (01/10/2023 - 31/10/2023). This setup works well, and as the month progresses, the dates automatically shift—for example, to 01/11/2024 - 31/11/2024 with the comparison updating to 01/11/2023 - 31/11/2023.

My question is: Is there a way to change all comparisons in the report (or within a dashboard/panel) to a different date range—like comparing to the previous month—instead of manually removing and re-adding each comparison or creating a new report? Essentially, is there a function to adjust all comparison dates in one go?

Adding a photo below.

Thank you!

Hi @DanieliusSk, If I understand your question right, it sounds like you're using static date ranges. For those comparison time periods you've created, if you click the pencil to edit them, there is an option at the bottom to make them "rolling date ranges", and then you just need to set them up to roll the same as your panel date range, which I assume for this would be monthly.

There's also the option to make "date ranges relative to the panel date range." This would update those comparison date ranges based on whatever date range you put in the panel, not relative to the current date.

Does either of these solve what you need?

It sounds like you are already using rolling date ranges to me, @DanieliusSk  (since you mentioned your current comparison of "This Month Last Year"....

Unfortunately, no, there is no easy way to adjust all comparisons in a report (from "this month last year" to "last month").

About the closest you can get, is if you "copy" the comparison date range throughout the report (instead of creating a new one for each table), basically making sure that all the "comparison date ranges" point to the same date range id... then if you update one, all will be updated....

But since you probably looking for this behaviour more for your report users to "easily use", and you likely don't want them mucking with the date ranges you have configured, I'm going to say the answer at this time is no....

That said, while not ideal, if you create a Report Builder report using "Dates from Cells", you could create a more interactive interface for running comparisons... but then all those users would need Report Builder, which also might not be a viable option.....

I believe there are ideas touching on this point that have been requested over the years... but I think this is a good reminder of why this is so important.

I suggest logging an idea here https://experienceleaguecommunities.adobe.com/t5/adobe-analytics-ideas/idb-p/adobe-analytics-ideas to bring this need back to the forefront.
