Segment Builder: Improve Before/After sequence options

Currently there are the following 2 options within the segment builder:

  • Only Before Sequence
  • Only After Sequence (which actually seems include the sequence itself as well)

Although these are a welcome improvement they don't allow enough flexibility to really be able to drive the maximum value out of the solution (which means we don't use it as much as we should).

I would like to see the 2 options replaced with the following 5 option:

  • Before the sequence (excluding the sequence itself)
  • Before the sequence (including the sequence itself)
  • The sequence (everything between the start and end of the sequence)
  • After the sequence (excluding the sequence itself)
  • After the sequence (including the sequence itself)

I think these would be a logic and useful extension of the existing functionality which would significantly increase the value of the capability - please can this be considered?

Fantastic idea! I'll see if I can get this added to the backlog.

I agree with all of these. The biggest one that I've needed for analysis is the third one:

  • The sequence (everything between the start and end of the sequence)

Great idea Andrew!

Perhaps instead of having 5 options, you could have 3 checkboxes that you could include/exclude any combination of the following:

  • Before the sequence
  • During the sequence
  • After the sequence

So if you wanted to include everything during the sequence and everything after, you could check 'during' and 'after'.

So, looking at this, it's a little more complex than it sounds like - for example, let's say I have a sequence of hits:

a -> b -> a -> c -> a -> d -> b

and I create a sequential sequence "a then b",

How would you want "before the sequence", "during the sequence", and "after the sequence" to work?

Could the above scenario be addressed with the addition of 2 more options

Wide or Narrow - "Narrow" picks the first A and first B, while "wide" picks first A and last B
First, Last or All - This option is only available if "narrow" is selected, and defines which instance of the sequence I'm interested in viewing

@ericmatisoff

This is from 2017 but came up again recently in the Questions. Is this suggestion off the table?

I've passed this one along over to our product management team as a reminder, thanks @robertblakeley
