What's optimal usage of Marketing Channel Detail?

We're not using marketing channel detail (MCD) much right now. What are we missing out on?

 

I see it can be configured by marketing channel, which is nice. It doesn't seem to carry classifications when populating MCD with an existing classified evar (or other), so there's duplicate work there.

 

Are there automated processes available or some benefit to using MCD as an Adobe-provided dimension, or is it just a remnant of earlier times?
