How to Write a Great Answer
Answering someone's question is one of the most valuable things you can do in the Community. A great answer does more than solve one person's problem - it teaches others and becomes the resource the next person finds when they search. Here is how to make your answers as helpful as possible.
1. Understand the Question First
Before you reply, make sure you understand what is actually being asked, and for which product and version. If a key detail is missing or something is unclear, ask before guessing. It is also fine not to have every answer - sharing what you are confident about, or an honest "I am not sure," helps more than a guess.
2. Lead with the Solution
Put the answer near the top: the fix, the setting, or the direct response first, then the explanation and context beneath it. The person gets what they came for right away, and so does everyone who finds the thread later.
3. Be Specific and Complete
Give the actual steps, settings, or configuration that solved it, tailored to the version in question, so the reader can follow it from start to finish. A short note on why it works helps too, so the reader can understand and adapt it rather than copy it blindly.
4. Match the Format to the Problem
Different questions call for different formats. Pick the one that makes your solution easiest to follow:
- How-to: numbered steps, in order.
- Troubleshooting: the likely cause, then the fix.
- Comparing options: a short table.
- Anything visual: a screenshot or code block.
When you share screenshots or files, follow the Media and File Upload Guidelines: keep them relevant and blur out anything sensitive before posting.
5. Point to the Source
Where it helps, link to the official Experience League documentation or the relevant release notes, and point to the most relevant part. It backs up your answer and gives the reader somewhere to go for more detail.
6. Meet People Where They Are
Members come from every level of experience, from first-time users to solution experts. Keep your tone encouraging and match the depth to the question, without oversimplifying for experienced members or overwhelming someone new.
7. Follow Through
If you are not sure your answer solved the issue, check back and ask. Update your answer if something changes or new information comes up. And if the question needs account or product support beyond what the Community can address, point the person to Adobe Customer Care.
8. If You Use AI
Generative AI can help you draft a response, but keep it in your own voice, verify it against reliable sources before posting, and tailor it to the discussion rather than pasting in raw output. See Using Generative AI Responsibly for the full guidelines.
A clear, complete answer helps far more than the person who asked. It becomes the answer everyone else finds later, and it makes the Community a stronger resource for all.
