How long are draft requests retained

Draft are indeed stored indefinitely and same applies to the new experience. Here is the confirmation from documentation

Drafts are never deleted. They are kept in Workfront until you either submit them and they become submitted requests or you delete them.

 Also to pay attention to them becoming inaccessible

If the structure of a request queue changes, you can no longer access existing drafts. For example, if a queue topic is removed, or a topic group is added, the saved drafts are no longer accessible.
