Hour report: can we see who entered the hours (not just who edited)

In Workfront Hour reports, is there a way to show who entered/created the hour entry? I can see who edited/updated it, but I can’t find a field for entered by.

if you’re using integration to add hours is it possible for you to amend the integration so that it also leaves an audit trail? (This really is best practice)

If so, I would suggest adding text to the external reference id field.

Hi @_Manish_Singh,

As far as I know you are right, there is no way to show entered by value at the moment. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

Best regards,

Hi Manish

You can get it from the journal. Workfront records hour transactions as journal entries, and each journal entry has an editedByID, a changeType, and an hourID. The entry where changeType is A (added) tells you who created the hour and when.

A Journal Entry report with this text-mode filter is a good starting point:

subObjCode=HOUR
subObjCode_Mod=eq
changeType=A
changeType_Mod=eq

Useful columns: editedBy:name (who entered it), entryDate (when), aux2 (the hour owner's name), newNumberVal (hours entered), and hourID if you want to match back to the hour record.

Adobe documents the API version of this in Track Hour Records with the Adobe Workfront API. I also upvoted your idea, since a native field would be much easier for process owners.

I hope this helps!

Hi @judgedice - Yes, I’m familiar with the journal entry method, but it would be helpful to display those fields on the hour report, as we already do for other record types such as projects and tasks.

would it be the owner id, or do you have a lot of cases where something is logging in as someone else to create an entry on their behalf?

Yes, the owner ID / entered By. We would like to confirm who originally created the hour entry.

We have integrations with Workday and Salesforce that log entries on behalf of users. In some instances, we would like to verify whether the owner has made any updates to entries created by the integration service account. We can use journal entries for this, but that process is time-consuming.

Thanks. I like the idea of using external reference id and this should work for now.

I’ve submitted an idea to add this feature along with when it was first created natively.
