Thank you to everyone who joined our latest Content Supply Chain User Group meeting! We were joined by Lilit from the Adobe product team for a live demonstration of Workfront Planning and a great discussion about how it works alongside Workfront Workflow.

Here are some of the main takeaways:

  • Workfront Planning as the strategic layer. Planning brings ideation, campaign planning, prioritization, and portfolio-level visibility into Workfront, while Workflow remains the primary place for managing project execution.
  • Flexible structure and governance. Teams can create workspaces and record types to represent campaigns, tactics, events, products, or other types of work. Global record types allow operations teams to define a consistent structure that can be used across multiple workspaces, while leadership gets a consolidated view across teams.
  • Connecting Planning and Workflow. Planning records can be connected directly to Workfront projects without Fusion, and the connection is visible from both Planning and the project. Planning also includes native automations that can create a project from a template and automatically link it to the appropriate record.
  • When Fusion is needed. Fusion is not required for basic connections or project creation. It is currently needed when information from a Planning record must be mapped into specific project fields or when more advanced automation is required.
  • Portfolio and program management. Planning can provide a more flexible alternative to the traditional portfolio-program-project hierarchy. Organizations can create their own record types and relationships, then connect higher-level plans to the projects where the work is completed.
  • Intake, reporting, and integrations. Planning includes request forms with logic and approvals, while Planning data can currently be reported through Canvas Dashboards. Records can also connect to AEM Assets, and organizations using GenStudio receive a dedicated Planning workspace for their campaign information.

One of the biggest takeaways was that Planning is not limited to marketing campaigns. Its flexible structure can also support event planning, product launches, portfolio management, and other use cases that span multiple projects or teams.
