Does the Target Feeds should also include products which are out of stock?

Hi @Michael_Soprano  - I'm currently working on an Adobe Target Recommendations PoC in a B2B domain, and this same topic came up during our requirements discussions. My understanding is that this is primarily a business decision rather than a limitation of Adobe Target.

So get the clarity on a few things with the product/business team:

  • Should out-of-stock products ever be displayed in recommendations?
  • If a product is temporarily out of stock, should it automatically become eligible for recommendations again once inventory is available?
  • What is the main objective of the recommendation strategy: relevance, revenue, inventory management, or product discovery?

From an Adobe Target perspective, both approaches are supported:

  • Include out-of-stock products in the feed and use inventory/availability attributes to control eligibility.
  • Exclude out-of-stock products from the feed completely.

If you choose to include them in the feed, please pass an inventory or availability attribute (for example, entity.inventory, entity.stockStatus, or entity.availability). That gives you the flexibility to exclude out-of-stock products from recommendation delivery when needed, while still keeping them in the catalog for future use.

Hope this helps.
