Other People's Details Are Showing in a Pre-filled Form

Issue

You click on a link in an email that goes to a page with a form, and the fields on a form are pre-filled with a different person's information.

Solution

When you forward an email that contains tracking tokens, the links in those emails are dynamically generated for the original sender. If you forward that email, then the links will still point back to the original person who received the email. This will cause form pre-fill and all activities to be tracked under the original person who received the email.

To prevent this in the future, send an original email that has not been sent to a lead already. If you want leads to be able to forward emails to other interested parties, include the Forward to a Friend link in the email instead.

When you forward an email that contains tokens

This doesn't have to do with "tokens"; an email without any {{lead.tokens}} or {{my.tokens}} will show the same behavior.

It has to do with links with the mkt_tok query parameter. That is, any link when you keep the default tracking setup, or special-case links that aren't tracked but have mkt_tok manually added.

Most Marketo users have no idea what mkt_tok signifies, so the best way to put this is "When you forward an email with tracked links -- links are tracked by default -- the links are customized for the original recipient."
