Marketo Link Too Long? Keep Email Link Tracking, Disable Tracking URL Parameter

Issue


You would like an links in an email to be tracked, but need to eliminate the tracking URL parameter on the tracked links.

Solution

In the Email Editor, you can uncheck "include mkt_tok" in the Edit Link box.

Adding a class "mktNoTok" to any Anchor Tag will allow you to keep the Link Tracking, but disable the Tracking Token Parameter from the URL.

You may also edit the Head of the email HTML to make large sections with this class.

This answer should be clear about consequences of turning off the mkt_tok, namely that you will no longer be able to track web activities for that lead.

It's far better for the people running a website that for some reason can't handle the extra mkt_tok query param to fix the bugs in their code. There's no legitimate excuse for not being able to handle that param.
