Anonymous Leads Triggering Campaigns

Issue

You have a trigger campaign using the "Visits Web Page" or "Clicks Link on Web Page" triggers, and you are seeing anonymous records in the Campaign Results.

Solution

Anonymous records can trigger campaigns that use the "Visits Web Page" or "Clicks Link on Web Page" triggers.  These anonymous leads will go through the flow of the campaign.  To prevent anonymous leads from entering your Visits Web Page or Clicks Link on Web Page trigger campaigns, add the filter "Email Address is not empty" to your campaign Smart List.

Hmm... this doesn't totally make sense. "Email Address is not empty" isn't the same as "Anonymous." If you do this, you'll filter out those leads who are in your database but have had their Email Address emptied out (because it's bad) or don't yet have one, but whose web session has been associated via other means. Filtering on "Person is Created" would be closer.

Do you have any suggestions on what to do once those anonymous leads get into a campaign? In my case, they have been added to a static list and I can't remove them or delete the record, even once I've manually added a fake Name / Email to the record.

This is some interesting behavior by the Marketo software - should users really have to know this to use those filters?

If you run them through a Smart Campaign - Remove from List they stick around?

No, this is really bad design.

Plus the technote ignore the fact that in Munchkin 2.0 this scenario is supposed to be impossible (for better and worse).
