Working with formula fields

Has anyone found a way to pass a formula field via the API?

I have tried my_frm_field = concatenation of two strings.

Flow action: Change Data Value my_string_field = my_frm_field but Marketo reports that type Lead Action is not allowed.

Thanks for any suggestions around this.

The formula fields behave rather differently from other field types: you can not sync them to SFDC, for example.  Typically you would set the formula one time, within Marketo, and then let it run.  What are you trying to accomplish in using the API for this?
