Question

Fallback Fonts in New Email Designer

Hi,

I’m getting to grips with the new email builder in Marketo and wondering if there is any information as to whether Adobe will be updating the builder to support fallback fonts in the brand themes.

My organisation uses a Google Font which I am able to reference in the videos but obviously this does not present in all mail applications. If I try to add a fallback font in the email template code, it is overwritten. I can add fallback fonts in HTML components in the email but this is more time consuming and I am having to hard-code CTA buttons.

I can’t find anything online about other solutions to fallback fonts in the new email builder or if Adobe have acknowledged this and plan to roll out a fix.

Hi sam.oconnor,

I’m also interested in finding a better way to handle fallback fonts in Marketo’s New Email Designer.

Currently, Brand Themes allow us to select fonts for different text elements, but I couldn’t find an option to define a complete fallback font stack, such as 'Your Google Font', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif.

I noticed that the designer supports custom CSS through Body > CSS Styles > Add custom CSS. This might be a possible workaround, although the CSS would need to be tested to ensure it applies correctly to headings, body text, and CTA buttons without being overridden by the designer.

For reference, here is Adobe’s documentation:

Since Google Fonts aren’t supported by all email clients, having a fallback font stack that can be configured directly in Brand Themes would make things much easier and help maintain consistent styling across emails.

Has Adobe shared any plans to introduce this functionality? Also, has anyone found a reliable way to apply fallback fonts globally, including CTA buttons, without having to create individual HTML components?

Thanks.
