Question

Why are Salesforce.com and Marketo record counts different?

We are currently syncing our Salesforce and Marketo instances, but I notice a discrepancy in record count. Salesforce has fewer records than Marketo (compared SFDC lead + contact + account counts vs. Marketo "Lead Database" count).

What can be driving this discrepancy? The Smart List for deleted records in Salesforce indicates 0 records (e.g. those deleted in Salesforce but only flagged as deleted in Marketo).

Thanks!

It's possible to have Leads exist in Marketo only.

Did you perform any list imports that you have not synced over to Salesforce yet?
Are there any forms which a user could fill out and not automatically be synced to Salesforce?

Try building a smart list that shows Leads where SFDC Type, Is Empty.  This will show you all the Leads in your Marketo instance that have not been synced to Salesforce.  Spot check them by looking at their Activity Logs to see how they got in the system.

Thanks Kyle, I put together a list where SFDC Type is empty. After spot checking, these records appear to be the culprits causing the record count discrepancy.

Thanks again for your help!
