What is the Engagement Metric?

The new program type called "Email" and the cooresponding channel called "Email Send" allows you to more quickly and easily send emails. The dashboard view shows a metric called "Engagement" under the Summary bar. I've not been able to find information about how that number is created based on that program. Does anyone know how that number is generated?
